Mercy Corps Mongolia (MCM) is a member of Mercy Corps International, an international humanitarian and development NGO.

Mercy Corps Mongolia supports rural communities in Mongolia to help them mobilize resources to help meet their economic and social needs. Its primary mission is to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities.

It also connects isolated herding families to economic and educational opportunities, as well as to each other.

The organization intends to achieve sustainable change in three key areas: economic development, civil society and natural resource management. 

Under economic development, Mercy Corps takes a community-led and market-driven approach to facilitate lasting systemic change, supporting the establishment and growth of sustainable mechanisms for improving access to information, training, financial services, business services and markets. 

Mercy Corps also works with local civil society organizations to foster social innovations that: a) establish and/or energize local civil society; b) assist civil society organizations build their capacity for delivering relevant, accountable services; and c) strengthen relationships between government, civil society and businesses through information exchange, public discussion and competitive outsourcing of government contracts to promote local economic growth underpinned by greater transparency, accountability and understanding between stakeholders. 

Lastly, by improving access to, and use of, information and new technologies, Mercy Corps works to reverse the effects of pastureland degradation and desertification that have intensified in recent years, in the process increasing incentives for adopting environmentally responsible practices and improving systems for managing shared resources.

The majority of activities implemented by Mercy Corps Mongolia targets rural areas. Some activities have a national scope, but the focus of operations is in the 12 aimags where Mercy Corps has permanent field offices.

These are Arkhangai, Bayankhongor, Dundgovi, Dornogovi, Govi-Altai, Govi-Sumber, Khovd, Sukhbaatar, Umnugovi, Uvs, Uvurkhangai and Zavkhan.
