The Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific (ANSA EAP) has initiated networking and capacity building efforts for social accountability in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi and in West and East Java, in line with the two sub-country network approach that it adopted for Indonesia. The Sulawesi Conveners’ Group emerged from earlier engagements of ANSA EAP with Yayasan Cinta Alam (YASCITA), an environmental NGO, and its media groups in Kendari City. The group has recently expressed interest in mainstreaming social accountability approaches in Eastern Indonesia. The Java Conveners’ group resulted from ANSA EAP’s networking efforts in 2009 with Java and Jakarta-based CSOs who have solid background on the use of social accountability approaches

In view of these gains, the ANSA EAP Operations Team arranged strategic planning workshops and meetings with members of the two (2) sub-country networks in Kendari City and Jakarta, Indonesia from 17-26 February 2010. The two-day strategic planning workshops developed an initial country agenda for mainstreaming social accountability in Indonesia based on emerging plans and directions of the sub-country networks.
