A former president of the Khmer Youth Association established the People Center for Development and Peace (PCDP) in November 2004 as a fully localized non-government organization advocating the rule of law and democracy in Cambodia. PCDP engages in advocacy efforts for a better anti-corruption bill and an alcohol policy. Toward these ends, it organizes workshops and campaigns throughout the country.
PCDP pushes for dialogues with government authorities to gain their support for the PCDP’s awareness campaign on anti-corruption. It also helps raise awareness for good governance among the youth within the educational system. Through these awareness efforts, citizens learn about the impacts of corruption on families, society, and the country. Stakeholders meet at the community level and in youth forums. More than 6,256 participants attended its youth activities.
PDCP’s efforts have resulted in more than 100,000 clean hand treaties collected among local people. The organization started a signature collection campaign by Tuk-Tuk (3-wheeled motorbikes) from people in order to push the government to adopt the new law against corruption faster.
PCDP has sent nearly 300,000 signed symbolic treaties to the National Assembly and the government.
With its head office in Phnom Penh, PCDP is currently operating its programming activities in five target areas throughout the country including Svay Rieng, Siem Reap, Banteay Mean Chey, Battambang and Phnom Penh. PCDP staff includes experienced people who have been involved in advocacies for democracy and the rule of law. PCDP receives support from the World Bank, Forum Syd, IOGT-NTO Movement and Pact Cambodia.
