The Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific (ANSA-EAP) in partnership with Luta Hamutuk Institute for Social Justice of Timor Leste and Revenue Watch International (RWI) conducted the “Promoting Social Accountability in Extractive Industry” training with participants from local local government and CSOs.  The workshop was held last 27-28 February 2012 at  S. Paolo II, Dili, Timor Leste.

The current situation of the oil industry in Timor Leste was presented by the participants; Mr. Joaozito Viana of Luta Hamutuk presented the legal framework for Timor Leste’s oil and gas industry.  Ms. Roslita Arsyad of RWI discussed the EI Global Standards of Practice using the PATTIRO experience to highlight the benefits a communities can receive from EI.

Mr. Nelson Seixas Miranda and Ms. Famela Listana then discussed Community Scorecards (CSC) and Citizen Report Cards (CRC) respectively.  Ms. Listana also presented Mongolian experience in using CRC that helped redistribute revenues from mining.

Overall, the Workshop stirred in the participants heightened interest to understand governance issues in the Extractive Industries (Oil), and in participating in its assessment.
