Independent Research Institute of Mongolia (IRIM) was founded in 1999 under the name of “Academy of Sociology.” It started professional research work on human rights issues and eventually started training of policy researchers, and formulating new policies. In March 2008, with the aim of organizing awareness campaigns, and exchanging best practices in overcoming difficulties of transitional societies with other countries, the Academy was reorganized under the new name of “Independent Research Institute of Mongolia (IRIM)”. 

At present, IRIM is a non-government organization that holds activities on policy analysis and research; monitoring and evaluation; training and consultancy; and advocacies and campaigns. It advocates for budget transparency in the conduct of state budget processing.
