Perkumpulan Yascita was established as a non-government organization that focuses on natural and environmental conservation issues. It aspires for a sustainable, equitable and community based natural resources management system. To fulfill this vision, Perkumpulan Yascita actively works on democratization, fair trading systems, and citizens’ participation in economic and governance issues. All its efforts are carried out in the sub national region, provinces, regencies, cities and villages.
Yascita established Radio Swara Alam in 2000 and Kendari TV in 2003 to help its campaign efforts and to encourage the establishment of media in other cities of Indonesia. The organization sees media as a bridge in communicating with its stakeholders for the eventual attainment of its sustainable, fair and pro-nature development goals.
From 2008 to 2009, Perkumpulan Yascita organized programs related to democratization, transparency and good governance issues. The activities aimed to improve the standard of public service in education and health in Kendari City as well as to establish a local participative governance system in the Regency of North Konawe and Wakatobi.
Yascita affiliates with Telapak, AMAN (National Alliance for Indigenous People), JAUH Sultra, East Indonesian Forum (FKTI), NGO’s and CSO’s at the local, national and international level, and other government institutions.
