Tanzania: Forum Underpins Public's Right to Get Information

THE right of access to accurate and relevant information on public policies, programmes, services, budgets and expenditures is a fundamental element of social accountability for citizens and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

The Public Social Accountability Monitor (PSAM) from South Africa Mr Abongile Sipondo revealed this after a preliminary study conducted in Tanzania on the challenges and opportunities of applying PSAM's Social Accountability Monitoring (SAM) Approach in Tanzania.

He gave his presentation at the 'Policy Forum Breakfast Debate' in Dar es Salaam recently. The debate was entitled: Demanding Accountability from Government: What can civil society and Parliament do?
